Food Allergies? Gluten Intolerance? You know what not to put it in your mouth but what about putting it on your body? I mean lotions, shampoo, and yes your makeup may be making you sick!
Our government does not require health studies or testing of the chemicals in personal care products.
According to the Office of Cosmetics and Colors at the federal Food and Drug Administration, “…a cosmetic manufacturer may use almost any raw material as a cosmetic ingredient and market the product without an approval from FDA.” Scary True
The skin (and that includes your scalp) is the largest organ of the human body. Toxins penetrate through the skin and luckily we can detox some of those toxins through the skin by sweating. Fact: pigs do not sweat and can not detox. Whatever toxins they digest or breath in remain in them and their meat. Okay back to makeup, any beauty product you apply penetrates the skin.
Scientists have found many common cosmetic ingredients in human tissues, including phthalates in urine, preservatives called parabens in breast tumor tissue and persistent fragrance components in human fat.
Phthalates are chemical substances added to plastic to make them more pliable and non breakable.
Parabens mimic estrogen and can act as potential hormone (endocrine) system disruptors.
Fact: when toxins are ingested, absorbed or breathed into the body they seek out the place they love most, FAT. The breast tissue is mostly made of fat.
I always check my beauty products for safety on this website http://www.ewg.org/skindeep they research products and give them a rating.
EWG’s Skin Deep? Skin Deep’s product ratings are based on the known hazards associated with ingredients listed on labels. These ratings represent EWG’s best effort to present solid information on cosmetic safety. But the answers are not as clear as we would like. Due to the weakness of the FDA’s cosmetics rules, many products with “green” ratings contain ingredients that have not been tested. These products appear to be free of ingredients that we know or suspect to present health hazards. But absence of evidence is not proof of safety. There may be chemical hazards that scientists have yet to identify. In cases where data are lacking, a “limited data” or “no data” rating is shown alongside the green hazard score.
Okay toxins are only one aspect of these products. Check the safety of what your using AND check the ingredients. Example: wheat is considered a food which is safe but not to one who has a allergic response to it. Wheat is toxic. Gluten can be absorbed by skin. It can can cause all the problems it does when digested. Plus premature skin, acne and a large array of skin issues. The right makeup can actually be more healthy for your skin than not wearing makeup. These mineral makeups have natural sunscreen (safe sunscreen).
Makeup: I have found a gluten free/corn free product that I use and have used for years with success. Elegant minerals. http://www.elegantminerals.com natural and organic skincare. There are other products on the EWG but for me this one works and the prices are amazing. They have $1.00 samples so you can try out many shades for just 1.00 a pc.
